Rules for Dragon names

I just wanted to start off by saying this is a great site, and it's been really helpful. But I am just wondering if there is a set of rules that dragon names have to follow, like if they have to consist of three words, a max number of syllables, or anything like that.

Great question, I'm actually writing a lesson on this! There are name conventions but I wouldn't want to say that names have to follow them. You've got most of the conventions right:

  • Usually 3 words ("Paar Thur Nax") but sometimes 2 ("Kruziik Krel" in "Kruziikrel"). Having 3 words makes it easier for the name to also be a Shout, like "Odahviing" or "Durnehviir".
  • Almost always 3 syllables. So if it's 3 words then each word is one syllable. If it's 2 words, one word has two syllalbes and the other has one.

Okay thanks, I will be looking forward to that lesson. Any idea on how soon you will have it done by chance?

So would that make "Dovahkiin" one of the two word exceptions?I figured since the greybeards were able to make a shout from your title, the shout would be three words;rather than "Dragon Born",it would be "Dragon Hunter Born" since shouts always need three Words of Power. But I think I may be over thinking it.
