There are three basic ways to create a new word: 1) Compound. Stick two existing words together. If both are nouns and reasonably short, you can use "se" in between. If either word is canon, your new compound will be semi-canon. Example: "Lotlom". 2) Derivation. Take an existing word and change some part of it, making a related meaning. If your starting material is canon, the new word will be semi-canon. Example: "Dey". 3) Invention. Make up a plausible-sounding word from thin air. Be sure to obey writing conventions, and don't go too close to existing words. All words made this way are non-canon. Example: "Naav". |
