Poll: Modern Words

April 8, 2014

Thus far we have worked with the language along the guidelines of remaining anchored to The Elder Scrolls universe. Discussions have come and gone regarding the inclusion of "modern words", or words outside of The Elder Scrolls. I'm now bringing it to the front page so we can get the most input.

The most recent idea is to create a new canon level that would be used for modern words to separate them from the rest of the dictionary. On top of this, I'd also like to offer the possibility of a user setting where users can hide modern words from the dictionary. This could also extend to invented words in general so someone could have a canon-only site experience if they wanted. If this feature were to happen, how would it affect your opinion of modern words?

Vote and join the discussion here or feel free to leave a reply in the comments. Pruzah tinvaak!

Update: Also, join the discussion on which modern words will be allowed and how to make them here.

Modern words seem like a good idea since we're using this language in a modern world, but I'm alright with whatever happens here.

I think that by adding more modern words would make the language more conversational and more relevant in today's day and age. But that's just the opinion of a Daedric Prince, so whatever...

I think the use of modern words is great and should be added but also have the option to toggle them on and off when using things like the translator and just word search. Go for it though. this is a modern world and those types of words should be included. maybe make them include no modern words though. ie: car would be something like electric carriage or some sort of mashup between words. it would be interesting to see what can come out of making words like that.

I definitely approve of adding modern words to the dictionary(in fact I was thinking about something similar just the other day).

As for being able to toggle them on and off, I personally don't care.  However it would be interesting to be able to activate them or deactivate them showing up in the dictionary with a check box or something.

Nowadays, modern words work well with translations of literature.
